SESSION: Academic station of FEBVS
22/09/2022 10:30 - 13:00
HALL: WS5

Academy Lead: Lewis D.

Co-convenor: Burdess A., Gratl A.

The academic section of any professional surgical exam seems to generate more anxiety among candidates than any other section. This WS covers what a Vascular Surgical Trainee needs to know about critically reviewing and understanding the quality of published vascular surgical literature. The workshop will explain how to review a paper and discuss your findings and opinions; specifically aimed at the academic section of the FEBVS exam. The workshop consists of a lecture delivered by well-respected vascular surgical colleagues with plenty of time for questions and answers throughout the workshop. Attendees will undergo a mock exam station, reviewing a manuscript, taking notes and discussing the manuscript with Faculty. The workshop is a must for trainees sitting professional exams (eg FEBVS).

Learning Objectives:
On completion of this workshop attendees will have a clear understanding of how to critically review a manuscript. Attendees will improve their ability to appraise published literature and understand when published evidence should influence their practice (and when it shouldn't). They will understand the general principles of the standard and level of knowledge, in this domain, needed to pass the FEBVS exam.
