SESSION: How to write & review a paper
21/09/2022 14:00 - 16:00
HALL: WS5

Academy Lead: Lewis D.

Co-convenor: Vega De Ceniga M.

This WS covers what a Vascular Surgeon, Vascular Surgical Trainee or Vascular Nurse needs to know about critically reviewing and having an in depth understanding of the quality of published literature. Although the phrase "publish or perish" is less relevant to modern vascular careers most colleagues and institutions still value those who contribute to the published scientific literature. The workshop will explain how to increase your chances of getting a manuscript accepted for publication in a scientific/medical/surgical journal. The workshop consists of a lecture delivered by well-respected vascular surgical colleagues with plenty of time for questions and answers throughout the workshop. The workshop is aimed at any clinician with an interest in vascular disease but is a must for trainees sitting professional exams (eg FEBVS) or who wish to publish their work and enhance their career progression.

Learning Objectives:
On completion of this workshop attendees will have a clear understanding of how to recognize, review and/or write a high quality manuscript. Attendees will improve their ability to critically appraise published literature and understand when published evidence should influence their practice (and when it shouldn't). They will certainly understand the general principles of the standard and level of knowledge needed to pass the FEBVS exam. This workshop will assist those in the vascular community who wish to take on the role of a reviewer for journals.
