This special session aims to facilitate a critical discussion on the role of survey-based research in OM, examining both its advantages and limitations. The most recent edition of the Global Manufacturing Research Group (GMRG) survey, carried out in the 2022-2024 period, as well as other existing international OM surveys are used to exemplify key challenges in survey research and effective strategies for overcoming them. The session involves open discussions and an overall review of the process of survey research, from research and survey design to publication opportunities.
