Session: Logistics 5.0 and Driver-centric Operations in Transportation
17/06/2025 13:30 - 15:00
Hall: B2 1.16

Chair: M. Klumpp

Road transport as the backbone of logistics and especially last mile distribution is based on truck drivers. Yet, putting requirements of drivers in the center of attention for operations management research and practice is still a future task to accomplish.Although human-centric concepts are discussed by authorities, managers and researchers for competitiveness, resilience and sustainability, specific implications for drivers are fuzzy. This is a blueprint issue for many blue-collar professional developments during the digital transition - where the meaning of human-centricity has yet to be spelled out as a HumanTech mission. We map relevant questions, report state-of-the-art concepts and align with strategy developments like sustainability, resilience and security issues. Within the session core topics like for example definition of well-being for drivers, data protection, health and safety on the road or concepts to increase appreciation and high-quality interaction are discussed, including their impact on further supply chain areas beyond road transportation.
