Van Herzeele Isabelle
Associate Professor at Ghent University, Consultant at Department of Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at Ghent University Hospital, Belgium. Obtained her PhD in 2009 (Virtual Reality Endovascular Simulation: Ready for training?) in close collaboration with Imperial College London, UK. A Proficiency based Stepwise Endovascular Training curriculum was later developed and has been proven to improve basic endovascular skills acquisition and transfer to real life, this training program has been shared with centres worldwide and resulted in several publications, in close collaboration with CAMES in Denmark.
Together with her PhD students Bart Doyen and Gilles Soenens, in collaboration with Prof Vlerick (Psychology) and Prof Bacher (Medical Physics), grants have been obtained from the Fund For Scientific Research, Belgium, of Ghent University and of the Innovation fund of the hospital to install the first Black Box worldwide in the Hybrid Room focussing on 'Learning from mistakes to improve patient safety and team functioning in the hybrid angiosuite'.
She is associate editor of the EJVES, active member of radiation protection and co-chair of AAA ESVS guidelines, representative for Belgium of ESVS Council and member of ESVS guidelines committee.
