Despite the radical transformation our society has been undergoing, we remain deeply influenced by the narratives that shape our collective experience. Heroes of myths, religious text and even fairytales become role models, while villains represent everything we seek to avoid - both on a personal and societal level. . However, Carl Gustav Jung offers a different perspective on these enduring characters. He conceptualized them as archetypes - not merely universal patterns of thought, but reflections of different aspects within ourselves. While some archetypes appear in positive characters who serve as role models, others are repressed into what Jung calls the Shadow: the repository for traits, desires, and impulses the conscious ego fails to recognize or refuses to accept. According to Jung, all humans embark on a journey of individuation, which involves integrating all aspects of the psyche, including the Shadow. In this context, the archetype of the Trickster is especially compelling, as it embodies the collective shadow. The Trickster takes many forms across cultures - Hermes in Greek mythology, Anansi in West African traditions, and, notably, Loki, the Norse god of chaos, who is the focus of this research. Loki's evolution in modern media, particularly in the Marvel TV series, is of special interest. In this adaptation, Loki embarks on his own Hero's Journey, encountering alternate versions of himself - from a teenager to an alligator. He eventually falls in love with a female variant of himself, but perhaps more significantly, the god of chaos ultimately becomes the eternal guardian of time, preventing it from falling apart. The portrayal of archetypal images in contemporary culture offers an opportunity to update the mental files linked to familiar characters. It invites us to dive deeper into the collective unconscious and reconsider what the Hero's Journey truly entails - and what we are ultimately seeking.
