Text:
The concept of Zionism destabilizes relevant distinctions that are often assumed or implied, even in this panel, such as those between religions and (secular) society, or between Jews and Christians. Thus, it destabilizes distinctions that are usually used to distinguish different forms of Zionism: secular and religious, Jewish and Christian Zionism. It even confuses the distinction between alliance and conflict, for in the name of Zionism, in the depths, hostile currents can indeed temporarily unite. In my talk, I would like to clarify this specific liminal dimension of Zionism and thus contribute to the current intertwining of politics and religion, secular and religious, Western Christianity and Judaism. Last but not least, I would like to uncover a deep historical fault line behind the current tensions within the West.
