Introduction In 2022, the Joint Learning Initiative on Faith and Local Communities (JLI) published its first State of the Evidence (SoE) in Religions and Development Report - an attempt to synthesize what we know about the role of religions in development. This process, rooted in the JLI Fair and Equitable Approach (FEA), taught us that how we generate evidence is as important as the evidence itself. Our reflection revealed that traditional "report-making" approaches didn't completely capture the complexity, ownership, and lived realities of local faith actors and researchers. Goal Our goal in this second "edition" of the SoE is to flip the script: to shift from a static report to a living, participatory evidence platform -the SoE Navigator (working title). Rather than finalize and publish a closed document similar to the first edition, we aim to co-create an evolving process that values mutual learning, shared authorship, and continuous dialogue across regions and disciplines. Methodology The SoE Navigator is being built around interactive digital formats, phased chapter releases, and robust involvement from JLI's regional hubs. These hubs bring together faith leaders, researchers, and development actors to co-define research priorities and lead evidence generation rooted in their contexts. Main Arguments - The process is as vital as the product: participatory co-creation fosters more legitimate and useful evidence. - Rethinking the "report" format opens space for dynamic contributions, narrative diversity, and inclusion. - We have not figured it all out - this is an unfolding, iterative journey of joint learning. Conclusion The SoE Navigator is an invitation to move from extractive evidence practices to equitable, both global as well as localized knowledge production. As we experiment with formats, processes, and partnerships, we continue learning - with and from each other. This presentation will share our lessons, hopes, and honest reflections on the path ahead.
