Our beautiful planet Earth is facing ongoing climate disasters from floods to heat waves to fires to extreme hurricanes and tornadoes due to human activity as it has been reported by the scientific community and the religious authorities who followed the science reports, including Pope Francis and His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama. Both Raimon Panikkar and Bede Griffiths were two great pioneers in Europe who offered in their life and writings an eco-wisdom perspective on our climate crisis age. Their trans-cultural vision of cosmic relatedness is central to addressing the real threat of destruction of ecosystems and all their living creatures. Their critics have charged them with labels such as being pantheists or monists when in fact they were panentheists. I will present these two Catholic luminaries in light of their ever expanding views on interfaith dialogue, society, culture, and nature. Both Panikkar and Griffiths brought a realistic message of hope to a fragmented world in urgent need of healing, reconciliation, love, and justice. Furthermore, I will add a critique coming from eco-feminist thinkers such as Rosemary Ruether, Sallie McFague, and Elizabeth Johnson.
