"Can we find God's creative presence in historical processes of socio-cultural transformation?". This paper deals with this question. Human beings as image of God participate in divine Providence by being the principle of their own actions through intellect and free will (Cf. Aquinas, STh I-II, prol), being provident both for themselves and for others. God's causality is not independent of human causality and does not take away human responsibility. The so called "Fathers of Europe", Robert Schuman (1886-1963), Konrad Adenauer (1876-1967) and Alcide De Gasperi (1881-1954), a Frenchman, a German, an Italian, three Statesmen, three persecuted by Nazi-fascism, three Christians. They firmly believed to be guided by divine Providence and to be instruments of Providence, also in the process of construction of the European Union, after Worl War II. As Christian Democrats, they tried to apply Christian principles to public policy, looking for social justice, human dignity, and the common good. They understood politics as a mission and a service, as obedience to God's will, working at the service of God's plans; they acted convinced that Providence was guiding them. As Shuman wrote: "We are all imperfect instruments of Divine Providence, which uses us to accomplish great works that surpass us" (Schuman's letter to Robert Rochefort, 1942).
