This study focuses on evaluating and comparing the safety and effectiveness of lateral laparoscopic adrenalectomies (LLA),retroperitoneal laparoscopic adrenalectomies (RLA),and robot-assisted adrenalectomy (RA)performed at the Santa Lucía University General Hospital of Cartagena, Spain. With the advancement of surgical techniques, it is crucial to understand the differences in terms of efficacy and safeness among these modalities to guide clinical decision-making.
A retrospective analysis of patients undergoing adrenalectomy between 2017 and 2023 was conducted.Patients were divided into three groups based on the surgical technique employed:10 patients underwent lateral laparoscopy (LLA),8 patients underwent retroperitoneal laparoscopy (LRA),and 15 patients underwent robotic surgery (RA).Demographic data, surgical times, blood loss, perioperative complications and hospital stay, among others, were collected.Statistical comparison was performed using analysis of variance(ANOVA) and Chi-square tests as appropriate.
The groups were similar to each other in terms of the studied characteristics. The results concluded that robotic adrenalectomies were shorter compared to the other two modalities. However, intraoperative blood loss, perioperative complications, and duration of hospital stay were similar in the three studied groups. All these outcomes were not statistically significant (p>0.05).On the other hand,if we exclude the learning curve in the robotic approach,we observe a certain improvement in the presented items, which is not statistically significant (p>0.05),likely due to the small sample size.
Despite the data obtained in this comparative study,it is imperative to acknowledge the need to expand the sample size to achieve conclusive results.Prospective studies with a larger population are recommended to validate and consolidate the preliminary trends identified in this analysis.
