This session explores how we create the future we want for manufacturing and supply chains, in the face of intense and interlinked challenges. We explore and offer practical applications of insights from future making, i.e. the everyday practices by which futures are created. We begin with an introduction from Professor Jan Godsell and insights from Interact/Loughborough University, World Economic Forum/ETH Zurich project. We then examine the context for change differently, as more pressing, 'more present in the present'. Using two practical methodologies - future snapshots- we show and apply how we can actively and practically change practice to make the future. We address three questions:
- How is the future and current strategic challenges for firms are best understood for strategic decision-making?
- What are the different methodological approaches to gaining a new perspective on potential futures?
- Applying these methodological approaches, what might the potential futures of operations and supply chain management look like?
