Dr Anne Burdess is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Northern Vascular Unit, Freeman Hospital, Newcastle. This is one of the largest and most successful teaching hospitals in the UK.
Anne has a sub-specialist interest in complex aortic aneurysm repair both open and endovascular.
She qualified with excellence in Surgery from the University of Edinburgh in 2000 with an MB ChB and an intercalated honours degree in Physiology.
During her training she was instrumental in creating a new alliance between the departments of surgery and cardiovascular science which led not only to the award of her own PhD but provided a dedicated research pathway for future vascular surgeons, subsequently generating millions in grant funding. She has presented nationally and internationally and has an increasing role in teaching workshops including those of the European Vascular Society. She developed her endovascular training with out of programme experience at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle and an Endovascular BSET fellowship in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. In 2018 she secured the post-CCT Complex Aortic International Fellowship at Uppsala University Hospital, Sweden.
Since commencing her current position, Dr Burdess has formed part of the Complex Aortic team, working to improve the full patient journey from assessment to post-operative care.
