After finishing my medical studies at the University of Innsbruck, Austria and spending some time in Freiburg (Germany) and Berlin I finished my professional training in vascular surgery again in Innsbruck in 2011. In parallel I accomplished a PhD programme at the Medical University Innsbruck and was awarded PhD in 2008. In 2013 I accomplished the Venia legendi and was appointed Privat-Dozent and in the following year Associate Professor at the Medical University Innsbruck. In the years 2013 until 2018 I was deputy chief of the Department of Vascular Surgery. In October 2018 I moved as senior physician to the Department of Vascular Surgery at the Ludwig-Maximlians University in München. Since October 2020 I am deputy chief of the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the Ludwig Maximilian's University Munich.
My research interest covers vascular epidemiology focusing on peripheral arterial disease and the treatment of patients with stenosis of the carotid artery. I was able to publish data from the Carotid Stenosis Trialists Collaboration and am member of the CX executive committee since 2018. At present I am Co chair of the guidelines of the European Society of Vascular Surgery on carotid disease.
