As Artificial Intelligence (AI) reshapes human cognition and autonomy, this study examines its ethical and spiritual impact by engaging with Islamic foundational texts, including, the Qur'an and Ḥadīth (Prophetic traditions) while also referencing some philosophical responses of pre-modern Muslim thinkers who draw upon these texts. The paper is thus a contribution to the debate on AI ethics and the recent Muslim responses to AI as a challenge to the human mind and heart. It aims to offer a framework that critically incorporates AI and its use as a tool for self-cultivation as an extension of human creativity, while still protecting key human characteristic, such as the notions of reasoning and tamyyīz (discerning or recognizing between right and wrong), intention (nīyya), human compassion, free well, and responsibility. This critical and ethically grounded approach recognizes the importance of technology in advancing knowledge but it aims at the same time to preserve human integrity, mind, and values.
