Despite recent theoretical developments in the definition and interpretation of disability, significant challenges remain in understanding human dignity within the main contemporary models. In particular, secular paradigms tend to show limitations in adequately reconciling the identity of the individual with the lived condition of disability.
This paper proposes a theological reflection on disability from a biblical perspective. Through an analysis of the anthropological foundation expressed in the concept of imago Dei, the article explores how the Christian tradition offers an interpretative framework capable of recognising the intrinsic dignity of the person regardless of functional conditions. Within this perspective, disability is understood within a relational dimension that affirms the human being in relation to God and to the community, offering an alternative reading to predominantly secular models.
