Contemporary environmental challenges, including climate change, pollution, and the depletion of natural resources, demand responses that go beyond technical and scientific solutions to include ethical and value-based dimensions. Islamic education, grounded in core principles such as khalīfah (human stewardship), amānah (trusteeship), and maslahah (public interest), offers a comprehensive ethical framework that can contribute to fostering environmental awareness and responsibility among learners.
This study aims to examine the role of Islamic education in enhancing environmental awareness among university students through a quantitative descriptive approach based exclusively on a questionnaire instrument. The questionnaire is designed to measure students' environmental awareness across three dimensions: environmental knowledge, environmental values, and pro-environmental behaviors, as influenced by Islamic education courses.
Data will be collected from a sample of university students and analyzed using appropriate statistical methods to identify the extent to which Islamic educational content contributes to shaping students' environmental attitudes and practices. The findings are expected to provide empirical evidence on the effectiveness of integrating environmental concepts within Islamic education at the university level.
The study seeks to offer practical recommendations for curriculum developers and educators on strengthening the environmental dimension of Islamic education, thereby supporting sustainability initiatives and promoting ethically grounded environmental responsibility among university students.
