In early February 2026, an Italian Catholic priest and influencer, Don Alberto Ravagnani, announced his decision to leave the priesthood via his social media channels. YouTube and Instagram are the primary platforms where Ravagnani discusses his choice; he explains his decision by strongly criticising the religious institution and clerical obligations while proposing a new vision of the Church that is more aligned with the younger generations. Through a qualitative content analysis, the paper aims to explore this case study, highlighting the recurrent symbolic and narrative structures employed by Ravagnani in his social media content. By reflecting on the role of the priest-influencer as a digital authority, the study addresses the key role of social media visibility as a technical, social, and cultural dispositif of power in the discursive processes of legitimisation of personal meanings of categories such as "religion" and "spirituality".
