Text:
Throughout his pontificate, and throughout his life in general, Ratzinger made teaching and the contemplation that underpinned it the foundation of his very life. With a style that was simple in its language but articulate in its reasoning, he was always able to "give reason for the hope" that was within him and to transmit it with a sober yet incisive passion, which allowed younger generations to draw nourishment for thought but also for faith. Joseph Ratzinger's immense theological and magisterial work included a series of reflections, albeit not systematic, on the theme of intense education as a work both internal and external to the Church, linked and unlinked to theology. Although Joseph Ratzinger, later Benedict XVI, never systematically explored the topic of education, he nevertheless embodied the role of educator with his own life, focusing on three areas: the battle against cultural relativism, the desire for knowledge, and the education of values. The ultimate goal was the attainment of the Truth, "because it is on the terrain of truth, first and foremost, that the religious battle must be waged" (Marcel, 2008). The objective of this research project is twofold: - First, to analyze how Ratzinger's theology has contributed, since the time of the Council, to the construction of an educational path for the new generations of seekers. Specifically, we will attempt to reconstruct his contribution to the drafting of specific documents such as the Catechism, the Compendium, and YouCatt, which have profound formative value for Christian believers, especially young people, in relation to the education of values and faith. - Second, to outline the lines of pedagogical anthropology and theology of education, revisiting themes dear to Ratzinger's reflection, such as anthropology and relativism, placing them within the context of a reflection on the need for education, understood as overcoming the self-imposed limits of modern society in the pursuit of Truth.
